Standard Spans up to 25 Metres, Capacities up to 10 tonne

Our standard production single girder cranes are supplied to cover capacities up to 10 tonnes and can be constructed to span distances of up to 25 Metres.

 

We can produce larger spans and capacities depending on your business needs

 

Maximum Height Lift of 13 Metres with speeds up to 8 Metres per minute.

These cranes are all fitted with low-headroom hoists that can provide a maximum height of lift of 13 Metres and lifting speeds ranging from 4 Metres per minute up to 8 Metres per minute. Should you require a greater height of lift of a custom speed bespoke options can be tailor made for your application.

 

Inverter Control as standard for reduced maintenance costs

All movements are Inverter driven and dual speed versions are also available on request.
Inverter driven hoists are beneficial as they allow the crane to produce smooth movements giving our customers the benefit of reduced maintenance on all electrical and mechanical components.

Frequency inverter control increases the life span of any crane that the technology is fitted to;

 

  •          Prevents damage to gears, pinions and other mechanical items by stopping crane operators moving the crane forwards then straight away trying to move the crane backwards known as reverse switching inching.
  •          Stops the load from swinging
  •          Massively reduces brake wear as the brakes are no longer used for stopping the crane and are only used for parking.
  •          Gives the operator precise control over the movements, capable even to the millimetre
  •          Smooth acceleration and deceleration of all crane movements
  •          Variable speed options can be configured
  •          Significantly less loading on the drive shaft and gearbox

Hook load swing has been identified as one of the largest common contributing factors in all overhead crane accidents, by using inverter technology the operator has very precise control over the load and swing is reduced to practically zero.

Standard Spans up to 32 Metres, Capacities up to 60 tonne

Our standard production double girder cranes are supplied to cover capacities up to 60 tonnes and can be constructed to span distances of up to 32 Metres. We can produce larger spans and capacities depending on your business needs.

 

Standard or Open Barrel Hoists, SWL up to 150 tonnes.

These cranes can be fitted with either pre-packaged hoists or open barrel hoists, the latter being available for SWL up to 150 tonne.

The underslung cranes manufactured by W H Scott & Son Engineers Ltd at our workshops are a different option available to the end user client when there is no option of a gantry to travel the crane, but instead there is only the option of using the supporting roof structure.  The limit in roof loading is a factor in the design of our underslung cranes and an assessment of this factor must be undertaken before putting together any design specification.  The underslung cranes manufactured by W H Scott & Sons Engineering Ltd are single girder types more often than not due to load limits in place.

The term gantry crane can be used to describe several different lifting systems, so in case you’re unclear it’s good to start with the question – what exactly is a gantry crane?

 

A gantry crane consists of a steel frame that has both a horizontal beam or beams (on which a hoist runs) and supporting upright columns. These columns can be static/fixed but more commonly are able to run on floor mounted rails or castor wheels.

This definition of a gantry crane is often used interchangeably with the terms portal crane and Goliath crane.

 

NOTE: It is important understand the difference between a gantry crane and an overhead crane which refer to a system with a horizontal crane beam that travels along a supporting gantry steel work.

We offer several different kinds of gantry crane design, including:

  • Standard gantry cranes – a fixed or travelling gantry frame consisting of two upright columns and a horizontal beam
  • Semi-gantry cranes – a system which uses a combination of a floor mounted rail and an elevated rail.
  • A-Frame gantry cranes – fixed and portable systems that can handle light or heavy loads.

  •          Jib Cranes

Jib cranes are used for a variety of applications in various industries. JIB cranes can be either column mounted or free standing. A Free-standing JIB crane is sometimes referred to as a pillar crane, post crane or post jib / pillar jib. There are two main configurations of each, Overbraced and Underbraced. The model chosen would depend on the available headroom. W H Scott & Sons Engineering Ltd  are able to supply standard JIB cranes with a lift capacity of up to 5,000kg and an outreach/radius of 8 metres, however, bespoke options are also available. JIB cranes can be supplied with manual, electric chain or wire rope hoists with manual or power slew options to suit the application.

 

  •          Monorail Cranes

 

For situations where only one direction of travel is needed, and all lifting points can be covered with a straight line it may be possible to use a monorail system. This type of lifting system especially appeals to customers who are working on a tight budget due to its cost effectiveness or only require a simple lifting process with limited coverage. Similar to jib cranes and light crane systems monorails can be either suspended from existing building steelwork or completely free standing suspended from ‘goal post’ or ‘jibett’ steelwork. They can also be fitted with either chain hoists or wire rope hoists depending on your requirements. Please contact us to discuss your specific requirements.

 

  •          Lightweight Cranes

 

Light weight crane systems are modular, flexible and individually adjustable light crane systems that are ideal for low headroom and low budget applications with capacities ranging from 125 – 2,000Kg and are available in both single and double girder configurations.

One of the main advantages of these systems is that their flexibility makes them easy to modify and/or extend if your requirements should change. They have various installation options with numerous securing points and options including suspension from ‘goal post’ steelwork systems for a completely free-standing application or when floor mounted gantry steelwork is not practical attachment to an existing ceiling or building columns. This makes them very popular for processes that require a large clear work area such as in the aerospace and automotive industries.

Their low friction operation ensures a prolonged service life combined with low maintenance costs. This also means they operate at a very low noise level with smooth lifting and positioning of loads, be it manually or by variable electric speed control.

For larger or more complex systems tracks can be provided with curves, switch points and/or turntables.

  •          Mobile A Frame Cranes

W H Scott & Sons Engineering Ltd manufacture A-frame gantry cranes to various sizes, heights and spans, that can lift a range of capacities.

Sometimes referred to as A-frame cranes or light duty gantry cranes, they’re typically used for light to medium lifting requirements, but thanks to our bespoke design capabilities, we can also offer more robust A-frame cranes for heavier applications.

Our A-frame cranes are a slight variation of regular gantry cranes aimed at lifting light to medium capacities. As you might have guessed, the name comes from the ‘A’ shape of side profile.

The main beam is a horizontal member fabricated from rolled steel fitted with end plates and cheek plates suitable for connection to the rolled hollow steel leg sections.

These A-frame gantry crane come in two options, both of which can be adapted for indoor or outside use:

All our A-frame gantry cranes receive an undercoat of zinc phosphate primer and are then finished with an additional outer paint coating of your choosing. Various options and accessories are available to you to ensure you end up with an A-frame crane suited to the task in hand:
